When it comes to the mountains, there are many courses which can help develop your skills,
experience and confidence to travel safely through and enjoy them, here are a few of them we run.

Introduction to Summer Mountains

•Who: Aimed at the novice interested in developing knowledge and skills to be able to undertake all types of Hillwalking trips (daytrips and expeditions) both in Sweden and further afield.

•What: The course will cover many of the skills taught at the Fjälledare and International Mountain Leader such as Planning, Weather, Navigation, Campcraft, Water Crossing and Safety, Equipment, Emergency techniques, Mountain Knowledge.

•Where: This course can be run throughout the Swedish mountains. We often run such courses from either Storulvån, Våladalen or Abisko, due to the great potential these locations have for both hiring equipment and ease of access to the Mountains.

•Why: Having the confidence that you have the right knowledge and skills to deal with the very dynamic environment of mountains is a very comforting feeling and will help you enjoy your time in the mountains.

•How long: This is a 5-6 day course.

Introduction to Rock Climbing

•Who: Maybe you have done some bouldering or climb inside and are really interested in being able to move from ‘climbing wall to real rock’?

•What: This course will give you the skills and confidence to move safely from an inside climbing gym to a real crag. The course will cover Equipment, Safety, Rigging Tope Ropes & basic ropework Climbing Techniques and maybe even your first lead climb outside!

•Where: This course is run in the Sundsvall area where there are a variety of fantastic Crags (we can even provide accommodation).

•Why: The step from an indoor climbing wall to real rock can be a big-one. This course will ensure that you do it safely and with good technique.

•How long: 3 days.

Introduction to Multi-Pitch Rock Climbing

•Who: Maybe you have already been on our Introduction to Rock Climbing course, or perhaps are interested in how to develop your skills and rope work to enjoy longer climbing routes?

•What: This course will develop climbing skills from a single pitch environment to that of a multi-pitch route concentrating on safety, rope and stanch management and basic crag evacuation (multi-pitch abseils).

•Where: This course is run in the Sundsvall area where there are a variety of fantastic introductory Climbs (we can even provide accommodation).

•Why: Once you are comfortable climbing on a single pitch environment, the change to multi-pitch routes can be confusing and challenging, this course will show you a safe, simple and efficient method of doing it.

•How long: 2 days.

Rock Climbing Rescues

•Who: A more specialist course for those who have been on the Multi-pitch Rock Climbing course, or perhaps need to develop your techniques for helping out your climbing partner should the need arise.

•What: Various skills such as rescuing an unconscious lead climber/descending a multi-pitch route with an injured climber, or maybe just how to help your partner get over a hard section of the climb with minimal fuss!

•Where: This course is run in the Sundsvall area where there are a variety of fantastic introductory Climbs (we can even provide accommodation).

•Why: Any multi-pitch climber should have the knowledge and skills to look after their partner.

•How long: 2 days.

Introduction to Mountain Ski Touring

•Who: Do you want to learn how to cross country ski, camp in the snow, dig and live in a snowhole, tow a pulk, navigate in a whiteout?

•What: An introductory course which will cover all the elements associated with a safe and enjoyable experience on skis in Sweden’s mountains.

•Where: This course can be run throughout the Swedish mountains. We often run such courses from either Storulvån, Våladalen or Abisko, due to the great potential these locations have for both hiring equipment and access to the Mountains.

•Why: The skills in this course will give you the techniques and tactics to undertake your own simple Mountain Ski Tours in the future and the confidence to apply them to ensure a safe and rewarding experience.

•How long: Flexible, however, we find 5-7 days offers a great opportunity to learn, practice and apply new skills.

Introduction to Topptur

•Who: If you enjoy the winter mountains and have skied on-piste, perhaps you are looking for a new challenge and the skills to be able to explore the mountains and back country?

•What: This course provides all the basic skills to be able to safely undertake some simple Ski tours.

•Where:This course can be run throughout the Swedish Mountains. We often run such courses from either Storulvån, Våladalen or Abisko, due to the great potential these locations have for both hiring equipment and access to the Mountains.

•Why: More and more people are searching for freedom from lift queues, an opportunity to create their own tracks and even seek out undisturbed powder, however, such freedom requires very specific skills and knowledge to do this safely.

•How long: Flexible, however, we find that 2-5 days offers a great opportunity to learn, practice and apply new skills.

Introduction to Ice Climbing

•Who: If you enjoy a real challenge and have climbed previously and want to extend your climbing season or perhaps you just want to experience this exciting winter activity?

•What: This course provides an introduction to Ice Climbing concentrating on safety, techniques and decision making.

•Where: This course is run in the Sundsvall area where there are a variety of fantastic introductory Ice Climbs (we can even provide accommodation).

•Why: This course will extend your climbing season and give you new skills to enjoy an exciting water activity in a safe manner.

•How long: 3 days.

Introduction to Telemark Topptur

•Who: Are you an on-piste Telemarker, an alpine skier looking for a new challenge or a Mountain Ski Tourer who wants to develop your downhill techniques and ability and knowledge to tour in steeper terrain?

•What: This course provides all the basic skills to able to undertake some basic Ski Tours, on a Nordic platform (Free Heel), using the Telemark Turn.

•Where: This course can be run throughout the Swedish Mountains. We often run such courses from either Storulvån, Våladalen or Abisko, due to the great potential these locations have for both hiring equipment and access to the Mountains.

•Why: Telemark skiing is a very natural and asthetic form of skiing with much associated history and culture – it is also a perfect platform for touring around the rolling Scandinavian Mountains.

•How long: Flexible, however, we find that 2-5 days offers a great opportunity to learn, practice and apply new skills.

Introduction to Snowshoeing

•Who: Do you just want to get out in the snow, make some coffee over an open fire and experience the wonder of winter? Or maybe you want to use snowshoes to help you hunt, birdwatch or even for fitness!

•What: This course is aimed at giving people skills and experience to be able to complete their own snowshoe trips. We will cover snowshoe techniques, navigation and some basic winter survival/bushcraft skills.

•Where: This course is run in the Sundsvall area where there are a variety of fantastic tours locally, in and around and Lögdo Vildmark (we can even provide accommodation) and even as far as the Höga Kusten where the views out to the Baltic are amazing!

•Why: Skiing and Toppturs are not for everyone – the snowshoe is making a comeback as a really efficient and safe platform for being able to enjoy the winter environment.

•How long: 2 days.
